Manchester United marked their return to the Champions League with a comfortable 4-0 win over Sabah at Old Trafford, opening their campaign in emphatic fashion. Bruno Fernandes was on the scoresheet, while Patrick Dorgu was among the players to draw praise afterward. The result gave United the ideal start back in Europe’s top competition.

Bayern Munich were just as convincing, brushing aside Bodo/Glimt 5-0. Harry Kane struck for his 55th Champions League goal and Michael Olise scored twice as Bayern began with authority. There was also a memorable night for Como, who won 4-1 against RB Leipzig in their first ever Champions League match at Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia. Martin Baturina scored the club’s first goal in the competition, with Tasos Douvikas, Assane Diao and Maxi Perrone also finding the net. Diao called it a childhood dream to score on his debut, while Cesc Fabregas said the challenge now is to maintain that level while juggling Serie A and European football every three days.

Roma had to settle for a 1-1 draw at Fenerbahce. Bryan Cristante put the Italian side ahead before Archie Brown leveled, leaving Roma with a point from a game goalkeeper Mile Svilar felt they largely controlled. Gian Piero Gasperini said the draw could still prove important, though Roma are now waiting for news on Manu Koné after he went off with a muscular injury.

Elsewhere, Lens beat 10-man Slavia Prague 3-2 with two stoppage-time goals, while PSV Eindhoven drew 1-1 with Shakhtar Donetsk. Napoli, meanwhile, confirmed injuries to Alex Meret and Alisson Santos after their 1-0 loss to Arsenal.
