Manchester City’s financial case remains the biggest story in English football after the club was found guilty of more than 100 Premier League financial rule breaches. Enzo Maresca said City will win their appeal and insisted the club’s titles are not tainted. He also confirmed he held talks with senior figures after the verdict. City and the Premier League briefly explored a settlement, but those discussions quickly collapsed. Despite the scale of the case, club executives do not expect City to be expelled from the Premier League.
That backdrop hangs over the weekend’s headline fixture, with Liverpool hosting City. Liverpool have injury concerns going into the match, while Erling Haaland picked up a knock over the international break. Virgil van Dijk has also suggested he could leave Liverpool when his contract expires at the end of the season.
Everton are facing uncertainty of a different kind. The Friedkin Group, which owns both Roma and Everton, said it is exploring new investment options for Everton, including a potential sale of the club.
There was movement in Italy too. The Italian Football Federation has called a general assembly for December 14, with the election of a new president on the agenda and Giovanni Malagò expected to be the only candidate. Juventus, meanwhile, confirmed Nico Gonzalez has signed a new deal through 2030, while Napoli manager Massimiliano Allegri said Scott McTominay can return for 20-30 minutes after a heart procedure and will be in the squad to face Frosinone.
