England will face Argentina in the World Cup semifinals after both needed extra time to come through tense quarterfinals on Sunday.

England beat Norway 2-1 in Miami with Jude Bellingham scoring both goals. Norway had taken the lead through Andreas Schjelderup before Bellingham pulled England level and then won it in extra time. Thomas Tuchel said he removed Declan Rice at halftime to make England more attacking, sending on Eberechi Eze, while Bukayo Saka also entered at the break. Afterward, Bellingham pushed back on Tuchel’s criticism of the display. FIFA was also drawn into the fallout after Norway complained that the ball had struck the spidercam wire in the buildup to England’s equalizer.

Argentina joined them in the last four with a 3-1 extra time win over Switzerland. Lautaro Martinez scored in the 121st minute to settle the tie and, crucially, avoided suspension for the semifinal. The meeting with England is already taking shape, with Lionel Messi calling England a powerhouse and Lionel Scaloni describing Tuchel’s side as a very tough opponent.

Away from the tournament, Italy has reshaped its national team leadership. Paolo Maldini has been appointed FIGC technical director, with Leonardo coming in as a special advisor. Leonardo’s arrival was described as Maldini’s suggestion, placing the pair at the center of the federation’s new technical setup.

In the transfer market, Mason Greenwood is set for a Fenerbahce medical ahead of a move from Marseille, a deal that would bring Manchester United more than £13 million through a sell-on clause. Genoa are also close to bringing in Hamed Junior Traore, who is due in Italy on Monday for a medical before a loan from Marseille with an option to buy worth up to €10 million.
