Match of the Day analysis: How relentless Manchester City punished Chelsea
Match of the Day pundits Ben Foster and Pat Nevin praise Manchester City's second-half performance as they overpowered Chelsea to secure a 3-0 away win at Stamford Bridge.
Aston Villa are closing in on Matteo Ruggeri after the Italy international agreed personal terms and prepared to travel for a medical. The deal is worth €25 million plus €1.5 million in add-ons, with Villa moving quickly to wrap up one of the clearest pieces of business in the latest market round.
Tottenham’s summer, by contrast, looks increasingly defined by departures as much as arrivals. Talks are underway with Monaco over Folarin Balogun in a move valued at €60 million, but Spurs are also close to losing Djed Spence, who has chosen Inter Milan. Inter are nearing an agreement with Tottenham for the defender at €30 million plus add-ons. Cristian Romero is edging toward the exit too, with Atletico Madrid moving closer to a deal for the center back.
Liverpool have confirmed the loan signing of Ronald Araujo from Barcelona, with an option to make the move permanent, while Nottingham Forest have completed a major defensive addition of their own by signing Ousmane Diomande from Sporting for a reported £34 million. Everton and Crystal Palace, meanwhile, have finalized a swap deal involving Dwight McNeil and Brennan Johnson.
There was movement in Italy as well. Fenerbahce have agreed a deal with Napoli for Romelu Lukaku, who is due to undergo intensive medical tests on August 12 before flying out to complete the transfer. Napoli will share the €6 million plus bonus fee with Chelsea. Juventus have also stepped up their pursuit of Jhon Lucumi, raising their bid to €20 million plus bonuses after the defender agreed personal terms.
