Arsenal are Premier League champions for the first time in 22 years after Manchester City were held 1-1 by Bournemouth, ending City’s title defense and Arsenal’s run of three straight second-place finishes. Riccardo Calafiori marked the triumph on his birthday and called it his best ever, while 16-year-old midfielder Max Dowman became the youngest Premier League title winner. Bournemouth’s draw also secured European football for the first time in the club’s history. Pep Guardiola congratulated Arsenal and Mikel Arteta after the match.

At the bottom of the table, Tottenham’s 2-1 defeat at Chelsea means their relegation fight will go to the final day. Spurs remain only two points above the bottom three after missing the chance to secure safety.

Chelsea have appointed Xabi Alonso as manager. Aston Villa face Freiburg in the Europa League final in Istanbul on Wednesday, with Unai Emery chasing a fifth Europa League title as Villa try to end a 30-year trophy drought.

In the Championship, Southampton were thrown out of the play-offs after admitting they spied on three league rivals during the season. The club apologized for its role and launched a formal appeal, calling the punishment manifestly disproportionate. Middlesbrough were reinstated into the play-off final after Southampton’s expulsion, while Hull City owner Acun Ilicali said lawyers had advised his club should receive direct promotion. UEFA has announced changes to the Nations League and European Championship qualifying, and will introduce a two-tier qualification process for the 2030 World Cup separating major countries from smaller nations such as San Marino, Gibraltar and Andorra. Former England manager Steve McClaren has taken a newly created role as head of football at Rotherham, and Toulouse have made an official approach to Motherwell for manager Jens Berthel Askou.
