Manchester City’s financial case dominated the buildup to Sunday’s trip to Liverpool, with Enzo Maresca insisting the club will appeal after being found guilty on more than 100 Premier League financial rule charges. Maresca said City’s titles are not tainted, revealed he had spoken with club bosses after the verdict, and suggested he would remain even if the punishment brought relegation to League One. Erling Haaland struck a similar tone, urging supporters to stick together, enjoy the ride, and smile.
Liverpool approach that meeting with injury concerns of their own. Alexander Isak is a major doubt, while Andoni Iraola said Federico Chiesa could see a bigger role after returning from injury. Iraola is also preparing to use Lewis Koumas as his striker against City.
Away from England, the Turkish Football Federation has dismissed Vincenzo Montella after a winless start in the Nations League. Montella had been in charge since September 2023 and led Turkiye to qualification for both Euro 2024 and the 2026 World Cup. In Italy, the football federation has called a general assembly for December 14, when a new president is due to be elected, with Giovanni Malagò expected to stand unopposed.
Everton’s ownership picture remains unsettled after The Friedkin Group said it is exploring new investment options, including a potential sale of the Premier League club. Juventus, meanwhile, have tied Argentina international Nico Gonzalez to a new deal through 2030, while Napoli manager Massimiliano Allegri said Scott McTominay is set to return to the matchday squad against Frosinone and could play for 20-30 minutes after a heart procedure.
