Italy produced one of the standout results of the international window, beating Turkiye 3-1 in the Nations League in Bologna. Gianluca Scamacca scored his first Italy goal in three years, Riccardo Calafiori netted his first senior international goal, and Pio Esposito completed the win. Roberto Mancini made nine changes and admitted a dip in fluency was to be expected, while saying he has high hopes for high hopes for Alessandro Romano. The victory lifted Italy to second in the group. Turkiye coach Vincenzo Montella said afterward that he wants to stay on despite the defeat.

Away from the pitch, Italian football has undergone a major administrative change. CONI’s executive committee unanimously approved placing the FIGC under special administration, with Giovanni Malagò appointed commissioner of the federation.

Milan, though, absorbed a fresh injury setback. Alexis Saelemaekers has chosen surgery on his right ankle and is expected to miss the rest of 2026. Pervis Estupiñán is also likely to miss the next stretch of matches after suffering a knee injury while away with Ecuador. Napoli, by contrast, are close to having Scott McTominay back after his recovery from a heart procedure, although Mathias Olivera returned from international duty with a new injury.

There was movement in the transfer market too, with David Alaba joining Udinese as a free agent. Alaba said Kosta Runjaic persuaded him to sign and insisted he feels good and ready to play after months without a club. In Germany, Harry Kane has agreed in principle to extend his Bayern Munich contract after turning down the chance of a move to Barcelona next summer.
