Inter set the tone after a 3-2 comeback win over Napoli at San Siro, but attention now shifts quickly to their Champions League opener against Real Madrid. Cristian Chivu said his side want to “write important pages in the history” of the club, while Lautaro Martinez insisted winning the competition is a realistic goal. Inter will head to Madrid without Federico Dimarco, who will not be involved.
Real Madrid’s buildup has been shaped by respect for the Italian side. Vinicius Jr described Inter as physically strong and warned they will cause problems, while Kylian Mbappé praised Lautaro as a great player and said Inter deserve respect. Mbappé also struck a confident note on his own form, saying he feels like the best player in the world and hopes to win the Ballon d’Or.
Juventus, though, have been hit by a major setback. Tests confirmed captain Manuel Locatelli needs surgery on an external meniscus injury and is expected to miss three months. The news follows Juventus’ 1-1 draw with Milan, where defender Mario Gila was forced off late after discomfort in his patellar tendon.
There was also a coaching change at Fiorentina, who have officially brought back Paolo Vanoli after just three matches of the 2026-27 season, replacing Fabio Grosso. In England, Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Chelsea stood out, with the reigning champions coming from behind in the London derby and Martin Odegaard drawing widespread praise for his performance.
