Eva Olid: Man Utd's new miracle-working manager tasked with leading the Red Devils to the top of the WSL table
Manchester United have turned to Eva Olid to be their new head coach ahead of the 2026-27 Women's Super League season. But who is she and what will she bring to the Red Devils?
Premier League clubs set a new summer spending record at £3.198bn, with Manchester City driving two of the biggest deals. City ended the window’s longest-running saga by signing Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea for £125m, a joint-British record fee, before adding Iliman Ndiaye from Everton in a move worth up to £65m. The club’s rebuild centered on midfield, where total spending reached a Premier League record £458m.
Liverpool began their league season with a comfortable win at Ipswich, powered by an early double from Alexander Isak for his first brace for the club. The result gave Andoni Iraola his first Premier League victory as Liverpool manager. Liverpool also confirmed their Champions League squad for 2026-27, including Giovanni Leoni while leaving out Federico Chiesa.
In Serie A, Como produced one of the weekend’s standout results by coming from behind to beat Genoa 4-1. Milutin Osmajic scored on his debut to put Genoa ahead, but Como responded emphatically through an Assane Diao brace, plus goals from Martin Baturina and Nico Paz. Moise Kean added an assist. Cesc Fabregas praised his side’s maturity and mental strength after the early setback and stressed that Serie A remains the priority. Genoa coach Daniele De Rossi said Como were the opponent who had impressed him most since his arrival.
Roma were handed a timely boost before meeting Atalanta, with Paulo Dybala and Evan Ndicka both completing a full training session and expected to be ready to start. Atalanta coach Maurizio Sarri said Donyell Malen is in a state of grace ahead of the game, while Inter coach Cristian Chivu built up his side’s clash with Napoli by calling it a chance to send a message.
