Live broadcast | CAF Confederation Cup draw 2026-2027: follow the preliminary round results moment by moment
African clubs turn their attention today, Thursday, to the headquarters of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, where the draw ceremony for the preliminary round of the new edition of the CAF Confederation Cup for the 2026-2027 season is being held.
Liverpool’s owners have agreed to sell around a third of the club to a consortium including Jeff Bezos in a deal that values Liverpool at more than £5bn, a significant move at one of Europe’s biggest clubs.
At Arsenal, Mikel Arteta moved to calm any uncertainty over his own future, saying supporters do not need to worry and that he wants to extend his contract. Arteta’s current deal runs until 2027, and he said the time remaining on it is not an issue.
Chelsea’s deadline for Manchester City to respond to an Enzo Fernandez bid passed without an answer. City did not meet the 5 p.m. Friday cut-off, and Chelsea then removed the terms and conditions for a potential transfer. City are, however, set to lose Tijjani Reijnders after just a year, with a £52m move agreed to Saudi Pro League side Al-Qadsiah.
Tottenham are close to another notable exit, with Cristian Romero preparing to complete a move to Atletico Madrid. Romero said he was not perfect during his five-year spell at Spurs. Tottenham are also involved in incoming business elsewhere, with Djed Spence arriving in Milan for a medical before a move to Inter worth €35m including add-ons.
In Italy, Juventus have reached a €20m agreement with Bologna for Jhon Lucumi, who is due for a medical in Turin by the end of the weekend. Lazio, meanwhile, completed Davide Frattesi’s arrival after restructuring the deal with Inter, turning it into a loan with an option to buy for €15m rather than an obligation.
The day also brought a notable farewell, with former Italy and Lazio striker Ciro Immobile announcing his retirement at 36.
