Liverpool’s Champions League campaign ended with a 2-0 home defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, sealing a 4-0 aggregate loss. The night brought another blow when Hugo Ekitike was carried off on a stretcher with an injury that Arne Slot said looked “really bad.” Ekitike is expected to miss the World Cup after suffering a suspected Achilles injury, and injury experts said he could be out for up to nine months. Slot also said Liverpool will likely have to sell to buy this summer.

Manchester United will be without Harry Maguire for Saturday’s trip to Chelsea after the defender received an additional one-match ban. He was also fined for swearing at the fourth official following his red card against Bournemouth. The suspension adds to United’s defensive problems, with Lisandro Martinez and Matthijs de Ligt already unavailable.

In Italy, Juventus have an agreement in place to extend Manuel Locatelli’s contract until 2030 with a pay rise. Juventus striker Arkadiusz Milik has also suffered a new injury that will keep him out until the end of the season.

At Inter, Cristian Chivu is close to a new contract after moving toward the Scudetto in his first full season as head coach. The new deal would also give him a bigger role in transfer decisions. Hakan Calhanoglu’s agent said the midfielder is very happy at Inter and insisted there have been no negotiations with Galatasaray. Real Madrid paid tribute to Jose Santamaria after the death of the four-time European Cup winner, calling him one of the greatest legends of the club and of world football.
